Late Mr. Pandia Rajan

The Institute for Youth and Development (IYD) is a secular, non-profit, voluntary organization established in 1978 by a group of dedicated and longstanding professionals in the field of social work. IYD’s founders are:

IYD is a registered trust (registration number 116 of 78-79, dated 02/06/1978) and it is also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. IYD is recognized as a Consultative Rural Development Voluntary Agency by the Government of Karnataka and it is a member of district- and state-level committees on education, Panchayat Raj and rural development and the state-level committee on voters’ awareness campaign. IYD is currently collaborating with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Government of India, Government of Karnataka and other national and international development organizations.

 

IYD is conducting training and seminar programs at local, regional and national level and sustainable rural development activities are taking place in Bangalore Rural, Kolar and Tumkur districts in Karnataka and in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu.

 

IYD has been actively involved in institution building and NGO networking at local, state, regional and national level. IYD is one of the founders of the Federation of Voluntary Organizations in Rural Development Karnataka (FEVORD-K). The Institute is actively associated with various NGO networks, namely:

· Issue-based networks on Panchayath Raj in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, in association with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation;

· Karnataka NGOs Network (KARNET), a state-level association of NGOs;

· Indian Rural Energy Network (IRE Net), a national association of NGOs from 14 states promoting renewable energy technologies in India (The Institute represents in its National Council and also heads the Regional Council for the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh);

· GRAMNET, the Tamil Nadu NGOs for Panchayath Raj and rural development working in seven southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

· Rev. Fr. P. Ceyrac S.J., committed to youth work and founder of AICUF;

· Mr. Thomas Kuriakose, former director of Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi;

· Late Mr. S.R. Prabhu, then the General Manager of Canara Bank, who introduced the concept of development in the banking sector;

· Mr. V. C. Joseph, legal advisor and present Director of IYD;

· Late Mr. Pandia Rajan, then the senior program officer of Vishwa Yuvak Kendra on deputation with the Department of Education and Youth Services, Government of Karnataka, who was involved in training youth.
